Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pedorthist?
A pedorthist is a foot and lower-limb healthcare professional who assesses how footwear, orthotics and related devices can improve comfort, stability, mobility and function.
What is the difference between a podiatrist and a pedorthist?
Podiatry focuses on the assessment and treatment of foot and lower-limb conditions. Pedorthics focuses on footwear, orthotics and related devices. Our combined expertise allows us to consider both your clinical needs and the practical footwear solution.
Who may benefit from pedorthic footwear or orthotics?
People with diabetes, arthritis, deformity, neurological conditions, foot drop, amputation, painful or difficult-to-fit feet, gait problems or complex mobility needs may benefit. An assessment is needed to determine the most appropriate option.
Do I need custom-made footwear, or could medical-grade footwear be enough?
Not necessarily. Some people are best supported with suitable medical-grade footwear, custom orthotics or a footwear modification. We recommend custom-made footwear when other options cannot adequately accommodate your needs.
Can you help if I have diabetes, arthritis, bunions or a foot deformity?
Yes. We can assess footwear and orthotic needs associated with diabetes, arthritis, bunions, hammertoes, swelling, deformity and other complex foot conditions. Your treatment plan will depend on your individual assessment.
Can you assess and fit an AFO or other ankle brace?
We can assess your foot, ankle, gait and footwear requirements in relation to an AFO or other brace. Bring your current device and footwear to your appointment if you have them.
What happens during a pedorthic assessment?
We review your history and goals, assess your feet and lower limbs, observe your gait, review your current footwear and explain the options that may be suitable for you.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring the footwear you wear most often, along with any orthotics, AFOs or braces. It is also helpful to bring relevant referral or funding documentation.
Are pedorthic services covered by NDIS, DVA, EnableNSW or private health insurance?
Coverage varies according to your plan, eligibility, referral pathway and insurer. Contact us before booking so we can discuss what information may be required, then confirm coverage with the relevant funding body or insurer.
Do you provide routine nail, corn and callus care at this clinic?
No. This location provides specialist Pedorthics and Biomechanical services. Routine nail, corn and callus treatments are not provided here.
